About us

Commercial independence

We plan to fund this newsroom partly with a paid monitoring service for organizations. Here is the wall between that business and what you read.

What paying clients get

Private watchlists over the same public records we already collect: alerts and digests about the agencies, funds and topics their organization needs to track. Nothing they receive is secret information — it is the public record, organized around their needs.

What no client can ever buy

A High Alert. A headline. A story — or the absence of one. A change to how anything is ranked or displayed. Access to subscriber data. None of these are for sale, at any price, and no client relationship changes what we cover or how we cover it.

Conflicts, logged from day one

Whenever a client’s watchlist overlaps a public story, that overlap goes into an internal conflict register before the story runs, and the coverage decision is made as if the client did not exist. If we ever report on a paying client, we say so in the story.

Donations buy nothing either

Supporters fund the work; they do not steer it. Donations are not tax-deductible — we are not a nonprofit — and no donor sees coverage before the public or influences what we publish.
